Collection & Rank
Your museum. Your rank. Your upgrades.
Everything you excavate in FossilRun goes into your Museum — a personal record of every species you've found, sorted by rarity and condition. Your Collection Rank reflects the depth and quality of what you've collected. Fragments let you upgrade your field kit. The leaderboard lets you compete globally.
The Museum
The Museum is your collection of excavated specimens. Every genus you uncover in FossilRun is added here with its condition score (Perfect → Shattered) and rarity tier. The Museum also tracks your completion progress — how many genera you've found out of the total catalogue.
- Specimens are organized by rarity tier and condition.
- Full field dossier accessible for each collected genus.
- Completion tracking across all 7 taxonomic groups and 12 geological periods.
Collection Rank
Collection Rank is an 8-tier progression system scored on four criteria: collection size (number of genera collected), perfect specimens (condition score), field finds (site discoveries), and rarity (how many rare and mythic genera you've found). Each rank tier shows you what your next move is to advance.
Fragments and upgrades
Excavating earns Fragments (❖), the in-game currency. There are five field-kit upgrades available:
- Detector range — expands the radius in which the detector picks up buried sites.
- Pick durability — increases the number of taps available per excavation.
- Mapping grid — reveals more of the site map before you begin digging.
- Steady hand — narrows the timing-ring window for more consistent accuracy.
- Speed — increases movement speed on the dig map.
Leaderboard
The leaderboard is anonymous and opt-in. It tracks a global skill score — the sum of your best run across all biomes — plus individual per-biome boards. You compete on accuracy and specimen condition, not on time spent.
